Yes, it has been one year, two months and six days since we last posted something. Officially we are dead. But rising once again from the ashes of creativity, here we go again!

I guess first of all is to follow up the gallery thread. One year later and we are steadily running the gallery. The walls are still standing and we have done ten awesome exhibitions. We have got some attention in media and  been invited to art fairs. Yay! Here are some pics to prove it all.

November 2007, Oskar Hallberg- Vatten, muskler, kyrkfönster och mångkulturkonst.

October, 2007, Max Ockborn och Danilo Stankovic, The Happy Grim Reaper and his Friends.

March 2008, installation view, Konstmässan.

I’m taking some time off from studying and doing laundry to present to you: more insights from the world of my slow progress to computer enlightenment. The first image represents me sitting alone in a dark apartment while Hedvig spent some time surviving Cairo traffic. It’s alist, of people, and were they are.

code rails

Then I stopped doing code for a while but recently took on the challenge to get rid of my nuby installation of rails on MAMP and went through an extremely complicated installation procedure with the guide from the hive and produced yet another test application. This time it’s an advert, just one. But with the new tool Hobo I think my productivity in producing useless applications will increase enormously.

And maybe one day, maybe, I will actually put one of these things on the world wide internet.

One and a half week to go and there is so much to do! We tear down walls, paint walls and we make new floors. It is almost like we are Ty in Extreme Makeover Home Edition, except we don’t have the megaphone and we don’t have his crazy eyes. The only bad things that has happened so far is a broken wash-basin and a wake up call saturday morning telling us we had turned off the water to the cafe next door. Oops.
Some of the stuff though is too hard to do for us and therefore we are very happy to have friends who are proffesional craftsmen for real; Eddie the builder, Love the floor expert and Gustav the plumber. We owe them!

Now it’s actually happening! The ideella föreningen Detroit is moving to a new address. We’re inner city and we have a store front with a nice big window and wooden floor.

In three weeks we plan to hold a grand opening.

Sometimes it is hard to let go. We liked the background pattern in our Mayakovsky On Ice-project so much we decided to print it on t-shirts. It started with basic black and white and ended up with colour splash!

I have now been looking at my beloved collection for two years, and showed it to most of the people visiting my home. People seem to be losing interest. Me too. I have to do something! A collage maybe. Or I’ll make my own matchboxes and no one will know which one is an original and which one is a copy.

In 2005 I lived on the countryside of Öland. For a big-city girl like me many things were new and peculiar. The abscence of a food store in the village, the frightening silence and complete darkness in the evenings, and the way everyone you met said hi to you even if you didn’t know them. What was one of the finest things though, apart from the friends I made, were the top notch flea markets. In no way could they be compared to the inner city secondhand stores I was used to. These locals had no idea how much youngsters like me are prepared to pay for the strangest of stuff!

I got my finest haul rummaging at Nybro Chess Club’s table. They were selling a (in my mind) rare collection of old matchboxes which once belonged to an old devoted collector, now deceased. Seeing all those matchboxes lying there so small and sad, squeezed in between old skates and tennis rackets, I felt a sense of duty. I could do nothing but buy them and so I became a collector of matchboxes.

We are now entering the recruitment phase. So far we have had contact with a seasoned subway-technician, a nurse and a pro-bono tattoo-artist. We think they can bring a lot of good ideas and knowledge to the project. Our hope is to start building in june.
